Mystery Death of Pensioner in Hornchurch Sparks Police Appeal
Police are desperate for answers after an 80-year-old pensioner was found collapsed in Hornchurch with unexplained injuries. Now they’re calling on the public for any clues that could crack the case.
Tragic Discovery on South End Road
On the evening of Wednesday, 20 February, Mr Alan Powell was found collapsed around 9.40pm at the junction of South End Road and Coronation Road in Hornchurch. A passerby raised the alarm, and the London Ambulance Service rushed him to a central London hospital.
Mr Powell suffered serious back and facial injuries. Sadly, he died in hospital two days later on 22 February. His family have been informed.
Unexplained Injuries Leave Questions
A post-mortem at the Royal London Hospital on 4 March revealed multiple injuries. However, how he got them remains a mystery. Police have yet to establish the cause of these wounds.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
“We urgently need the public’s help to find out what exactly happened to Alan Powell,” said Detective Inspector Andy Fay of the East Area Command Unit.
“If you were in the area in the hours before Alan was found, please get in touch. Your information could be vital in helping his family understand the circumstances of this death.”
