Major A31 Crash Shuts Road Westbound Near Ringwood
The westbound A31 towards Ringwood remains shut after a serious collision between a pedestrian and a lone vehicle just yards from Stoney Cross services.
Emergency teams scrambled to the scene just after 1am on Sunday. The pedestrian was hit by the driver of an Audi A3. Police, paramedics, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance all rushed in.
Full Closure and Long Delay Expected
The A31 was closed at Junction 2 of the M27 motorway to allow a full collision investigation. The closure is set to last several hours as officers and highway crews recover the vehicle and clear the scene.
Drivers are warned to expect delays and follow this diversion:
- Take the A326 towards Colbury
- Join the A35 towards Christchurch via Lyndhurst
- Connect to the A338 and rejoin the A31 at junction 1

A Highways England spokesperson said they expect the A31 to reopen around 9am, depending on vehicle recovery and cleanup efforts.
