Pevensey Bay Gets Game-Changing Facility for Disabled Visitors
Wealden District Council has unveiled a brand new Changing Places toilet in Pevensey Bay, offering vital support for disabled people who need extra assistance. Opened on Monday, March 13, the facility sits beside the existing council toilets at Sea Road Car Park.
£78,000 Investment Boosts Accessibility
The state-of-the-art unit cost over £78,000, funded by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Changing Places Fund. It features a height-adjustable changing bench, peninsular toilet, ceiling hoist, and plenty of room for carers. The build was backed by a delivery support worker from Muscular Dystrophy UK, a charity aiding those with muscle-wasting conditions.
Disability Campaigner Praises the New Facility
“This is a game-changer,” said Ian Westgate from the Eastbourne Access Group. “Now disabled people can plan days out knowing essential facilities like this are available.”
Council Leader Welcomes Positive Feedback
Councillor Ann Newton, leader of Wealden Council, said the facility would encourage more visitors to enjoy Pevensey Bay and its beach. “We’ve already had great feedback from residents and visitors praising this much-needed addition,” she added.
With over a quarter of a million people in the UK relying on Changing Places toilets, this new facility marks a huge step towards inclusivity and accessibility for all.
