No End to Takeaway Pint Rules in England and Wales!

Good news for British pub lovers! The government has scrapped plans to end takeaway pint licences in England and Wales. Thanks to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stepping in, pubs can keep serving booze through takeaway hatches.

Sunak Steps In to Save Takeaway Pints

The Home Office first introduced the takeaway pint scheme in July 2020 during lockdown. It let pubs sell pints to-go when their doors were shut. The scheme was extended twice but looked set to end this September.

Then came the twist – The Sun revealed Sunak personally intervened to keep it alive. A No10 insider told us takeaway pints and al fresco drinks are a hit with customers and a vital income stream for struggling pubs.

Sunak confirmed on X (formerly Twitter): “I’ve heard the British pub industry loud and clear – takeaway pints are a boost for their businesses and our economy. That’s why they’re here to stay.” 🍺

Boost for Pub Biz and the Economy

The scheme lets pubs with on-site licences sell drinks outside, as long as they have permission for tables and chairs. Now, licences won’t need changing, making it easier for thousands of venues to carry on serving takeaway pints.

Official estimates say between 8,500 to 12,800 pubs could keep selling takeaway booze if the scheme runs on. Although local councils and residents mostly preferred going back to normal rules, Sunak’s intervention has sealed the deal to keep takeaway pints rolling.

This decision backs pubs still recovering from the pandemic hit and boosts the wider UK economy. No more rushing to finish your pint – takeaway pints are here for the long haul!
