Massive M25 Traffic Chaos After Lorry Blaze Near Wisley

Thursday dawned with a fiery nightmare on the M25 as a lorry erupted in flames near the Wisley Interchange, sparking miles of snarled traffic and frustration across Surrey.

M25 Anticlockwise Shut, Seven-Mile Tailback

The M25 anticlockwise has been shut, causing a massive seven-mile jam between Junction 10 (A3) and Junction 8 (A217). The fire forced road closures in both directions shortly after 4 a.m., with Junction 10 sealed off around 5:10 a.m. The clockwise carriageway reopened by 6 a.m., but chaos remains.

Drivers Forced Onto Twisting Diversion Routes

Motorists desperate to escape the gridlock took official and unofficial detours, clogging up several Surrey towns. The official diversion directs traffic via the A3, then the A240 through Burgh Heath, and finally the A217 back to the M25 at Reigate, adding to congestion.

Road Closure Hits Gatwick Passengers and Pilots

Many drivers were trapped between the fire scene and the closure point, with traffic officers taking hours to guide them out via Junction 9. The disruption hit Gatwick Airport hard, with numerous passengers missing their flights. Even pilots were reportedly stuck in the crawl.

Stay tuned for updates as emergency crews continue to tackle the aftermath.
