Families have been left heartbroken after a vicious arson attack gutted the play equipment at Queens Park this morning.
Playground Torched in Shocking Vandalism
Maintenance crews stumbled upon the extensive fire damage while doing routine checks and litter picks. The playground gear was badly burned, forcing officials to cordon off the area for safety.
£30,000 Damage – Repairs Planned For Summer
The council estimates the cost to replace the destroyed equipment will be between £25,000 and £30,000. They hope to have the new facilities ready by summer, giving kids a safe space to play again soon.
Police Hunt Culprits Using CCTV
Sussex Police have launched an investigation and are combing through CCTV footage to catch those responsible for the fire. Authorities are urging anyone with info to step forward immediately.
“I simply cannot understand why anyone would want to damage a children’s playground,” said Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet Member for Sport and Recreation. “We’ve worked hard to create fun spaces for kids, only to see it ruined by a mindless act of vandalism. It’s disgusting.”
Witnesses or those with information should contact Sussex Police on 101. Until then, Queens Park’s young visitors will have to wait before enjoying their favourite play spot again.
