Police appeal after man Shot in Southampton

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was shot with a catapult at a duck pond in Southampton. The incident took place at Shirley Pond Park between 4pm and 4.15pm on Sunday, March 27. The victim, a 58-year-old man, was sat at the duck pond when he saw three boys enter the park. They started to shoot at the ducks with a catapult, killing two of the animals, before firing at the 58-year-old man. The shot hit him in the face, narrowly missing his eye. The man then walked to Redbridge police station to report the incident, before being taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to a cut and bruising to his right temple. One of the boys is described as being aged 12 to 14-years-old, white, of slight build, around 5ft 3ins tall and with light brown hair. The two other boys are described as being around 16-year-old and as being taller and of larger build than the first boy. PC Sarah Miller, of Redbridge police station, said: “In the past few weeks there have been reports of youths in the Redbridge area firing catapults at street furniture and vehicles. “It is important that the people responsible are identified before somebody is seriously injured.” Anyone with information on what happened is asked to contact PC Miller at Redbridge police station on 101, quoting 44160119062.
