Serious Crash on A5 Leaves Man Fighting for Life

Bedfordshire Police are hunting witnesses after a brutal collision on the A5 near Eastern Way, Watling Street, late on Thursday, 5 December. The smash, involving two vehicles, left one man with life-threatening injuries.

Three Hospitalised, Two Arrested

The crash happened around 11pm. Three people were rushed to hospital. One remains in critical condition.

Police wasted no time and arrested two men at the scene:

  • One on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by careless driving.
  • The other on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Both suspects are now in police custody.

A5 Road Closure and Police Appeal

The A5 was shut temporarily during emergency operations but has since reopened.

Detective Sergeant Shona Birkby from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit made a direct plea:

“This was an incredibly serious incident that has left one man in a life-threatening condition.”

“We want to identify the driver of an HGV van seen on the A5 at the time, plus any witnesses who fled before police arrived.”

“If you have dashcam footage of the moments leading up to or during the collision, please get in touch immediately.”
