Car Torched in Epsom Arson Attack – Police Hunt Suspect

Surrey Police are on the case after a suspicious fire destroyed a car on a residential driveway in Epsom. The blaze broke out just before 10:20pm on Friday, 7 February, at Bishopsmead Close.

A white Volvo was deliberately set alight, say police. Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to put out the flames before they could reach nearby homes. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the vehicle suffered severe damage.

Eyewitnesses Describe Suspect

Officers are searching for a man spotted fleeing the scene soon after the fire started. Witnesses describe him as:

  • Below average height
  • Slim to average build
  • Wearing a dark puffed jacket with a fur-lined hood
  • Dark, loose-fitting trousers and dark trainers

Police Launch Full Investigation

Surrey Police’s Epsom and Ewell Beat team has launched a thorough investigation. They are conducting house-to-house enquiries and checking local CCTV footage. Police urge anyone near Bishopsmead Close from 9:30pm to 10:30pm who saw anything suspicious to get in touch immediately.

“We’re appealing for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident,” said a Surrey Police spokesperson. “Even the smallest detail could help us identify the person responsible.”

Police Demand CCTV and Dash Cam Footage

Detectives are especially keen to hear from residents with:

  • CCTV or doorbell camera footage covering Bishopsmead Close at the time
  • Dash cam footage from vehicles nearby
  • Helmet cam footage from cyclists or motorcyclists in the area
