Tragic helicopter crash in Snowdonia claims five lives as wreckage found
Body recovery underway in deadly Snowdonia chopper crash
Police and Mountain Rescue teams searching for a missing helicopter in Snowdonia have discovered wreckage along with the bodies of five victims. All are confirmed deceased. The exact crash site remains undisclosed to allow a dignified, unhindered recovery in the treacherous terrain.
Last known position sparked massive search
Superintendent Gareth Evans of North Wales Police revealed the aircraft—a red Twin Squirrel helicopter—failed to arrive in Dublin from Luton yesterday afternoon. The initial search focused on Caernarfon Bay over the sea before shifting inland to Snowdonia.
“Visibility was atrocious, sometimes less than 10 metres,” Evans said. The search involved local and RAF Mountain Rescue teams braving harsh conditions.
Families supported, investigation underway
Formal identification is pending, and police are supporting families through specialist Family Liaison Officers. Evans urged the public to respect their privacy at this difficult time.
“The crash site is remote and hazardous,” said Evans. “We thank the local community for their support but ask people not to visit the area due to the ongoing investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.”
Police seek public help with sightings
Authorities appeal for anyone who saw the helicopter over Snowdonia yesterday to contact North Wales Police via live web chat or phone 101.
This tragic event is being thoroughly investigated to determine what caused the deadly crash.
