Met Police Under Scrutiny After W2 Vehicle Stop

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has decided not to launch a full investigation into a recent Met Police vehicle stop in W2.

Complaint Passed Back to Met

Instead, the IOPC has handed the complaint over to the Met’s own Directorate of Professional Standards for further investigation. The person who made the complaint has been informed.

What Happened During the Stop?

  • Armed officers were on routine patrol at around 4am on Sunday, 14 August.
  • They spotted a car heading eastbound on the A40 Westway and suspected the driver was texting while driving.
  • The officers signalled for the vehicle to pull over, but it didn’t stop immediately.
  • Backup was called, and the car stopped five minutes later in 1 Terrace W2.
  • Officers explained the reason for the stop before allowing the driver to go on their way.

Police Respond to Social Media Buzz

The Met are aware of social media clips capturing part of the stop. Due to public interest, this incident was recorded as a formal complaint and voluntarily referred to the IOPC.
