Pro-Palestine Protesters Bring Tower Bridge to a Halt in London
Thousands Rally at Trafalgar Square
Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters packed Trafalgar Square on Saturday afternoon, sparked by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. The rally kicked off at 2pm, drawing huge crowds demanding stronger action from the British government amid the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict.
Traffic Chaos as Protesters Block Tower Bridge
By early evening, a smaller group broke away and staged a dramatic blockade on London’s iconic Tower Bridge. The Metropolitan Police acted swiftly, arriving “within seconds” to handle the disruption. Officers dispersed the crowd by 6.33pm, restoring traffic flow within minutes.
Police Keep Calm Amid Tensions
The Met confirmed that while a faction moved from Trafalgar Square to Whitehall, traffic remained largely unaffected. By 5pm, the main protest areas had cleared, though a police presence stayed put to keep order. The force urged calm and cooperation throughout the demonstrations.
Political Fallout Over Gaza Violence
The protests come hot on the heels of Israel confirming the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer refused to mourn Sinwar’s death, blaming the militant chief for countless Israeli and Palestinian casualties.
With tensions high, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign is pushing for the UK government to step up its response as the conflict shows no signs of easing.
