Rocks Smash Police Windscreen in Reckless Attack on A419
Police are hunting witnesses after a rock smashed into a moving police car’s windscreen on the A419 early this morning, causing dangerous damage and splintering glass over officers inside.
Rock Hurled at Moving Police Car
The drama unfolded just past the A420 northbound turnoff at 12.45am on May 5. Officers were alerted after a motorist reported a rock hit his car roof. Moments later, while driving the same stretch, police were hit by a rock smashing their windscreen.
Thankfully, the officers escaped injury and managed to stop the vehicle safely despite flying shards of glass.
Police Condemn ‘Idiotic’ Attack
“This is an idiotic, reckless thing to do which could have ended up as a fatality,” said Inspector Colin Conway.
“These actions could have caused serious harm to all road users and it beggars belief that someone would do this.”
“It appears someone or a group threw the rocks from the roadside – possibly collecting them from a nearby railway line, adding an extra danger.”
Police Urge Witnesses to Step Forward
Investigators want anyone who saw the incident or has clues on those responsible to come forward. Call 101 quoting log 13 of May 5.
