Red Funnel Backs Massive Isle of Wight Beach Clean-Up
Red Funnel is throwing its weight behind a major coastal clean-up across the Isle of Wight on 22-23 September. This island-wide effort is a key part of the annual Isle of Wight Day celebrations.
Despite boasting 67 miles of some of the cleanest beaches along the south coast, the Isle of Wight still battles with plastic and man-made waste washing ashore, harming local wildlife and marine life.
Community Rally to Tackle Plastic Pollution
The goal? To get islanders and visitors rolling up their sleeves to clear as much litter as possible in one weekend, while enjoying the fresh sea breeze. Plus, there’s a thrilling chance of spotting dinosaur bones and other fossils along certain stretches of the coast.
Red Funnel isn’t just sponsoring the event—they’re offering hefty ferry discounts for mainland helpers and encouraging their staff to join the battle against beach waste.
Leaders Urge Everyone to Join the Clean-Up
Kevin George, Red Funnel’s Chairman and CEO, said: “Isle of Wight Day is a fantastic chance for locals and visitors to unite behind a cause spotlighted in the Blue Planet series. This promises to be the Island’s biggest beach clean ever, boosting marine ecology and the beauty of our stunning coastline.”
Robin Courage, Chairman of Isle of Wight Day, added: “This year, we’re calling on the whole community to take part in the UK’s largest beach and coastal clean-up over 22nd and 23rd September. Let’s celebrate our 67 miles of gorgeous beaches and paths by clearing out the rubbish the sea has dumped on us!”
