False Alarm on Samphire Hoe as ‘Body’ Turns Out to Be Lobster Pots

Emergency Services Scramble Over False Report

Chaos hit Samphire Hoe on Saturday morning after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the sea near the café at around 8am. Panic spread when the caller, out walking her dog, claimed to spot what looked like a pair of feet and a head about 30 metres offshore.

Rescue Teams Join the Race

Staff had to calm the distressed woman before alerting the emergency services. Two ambulances, the Dover RNLI All-Weather Lifeboat, and Coastguard Search and Rescue teams from Dover and Folkestone were scrambled to the scene at full pace.

No Body Found – Just Floating Lobster Pots

After a thorough search, the reports were declared unfounded. Rescue crews discovered the “body” was actually lobster pots bobbing in the water.
