Early Morning Rescue at Beachy Head: Two Stranded by Tide Saved
Eastbourne RNLI sprang into action at the crack of dawn on Sunday, May 19th. At 7.22am, Solent Coastguard reported two people trapped by the tide at notorious Beachy Head. The lifeboat crew didn’t waste a second.
D-Class Lifeboat Launches to the Rescue
Darrel, in charge of the station’s Launch Authorities, quickly gave the green light to deploy the D-Class Inshore Lifeboat (ILB). The crew scrambled and the ILB powered out to the scene. They located the pair in two separate spots — one clinging to the lighthouse, the other stranded on the beach.
Safe and Sound: No Injuries Reported
Both rescued individuals were fitted with life jackets before being brought safely back to the lifeboat station. Luckily, neither suffered injuries and both thanked the crew for their swift response.
RNLI Issues Safety Warning
Eastbourne RNLI urges everyone visiting the coast to always check tide times carefully. If you find yourself cut off by the tide, stay dry, stay calm, and call for help immediately. Don’t attempt risky moves that could make things worse.
