RSC Launches Bold New Arts Fellowship to Shape Creative Future
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has just announced a groundbreaking initiative, naming nine international fellows to spearhead a major programme exploring the future of creative and cultural practices. Backed by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), this bold scheme aims to push artistic boundaries and tackle urgent challenges facing the creative industries.
Diverse Talent Tackles Tech and Trust in Art
The nine fellows bring a mix of artists, academics, and practitioners, including Stephen Bailey, Jemma Desai, Janice Duncan, Tabitha Jackson, Scarlett Kim, Akhila Krishnan, Amy Rose, Amahra Spence, and Nami Weatherby. Their research will zoom in on hot topics like trust and reality in the AI era, driving change in creative institutions, and the power of artists as social change-makers.
RSC Chiefs Back Artist-Led Research
“We are focused on artist-led research and the positive impact it can have on culture and society,” said RSC Co-Artistic Directors Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey. “Thanks to AHRC funding, we can collaborate deeply with artists, researchers, and organisations across various sectors.”
Global Partnerships and Cutting-Edge Tech
This bold programme partners with top global institutions like Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Music Center, and Stanford University’s Interdisciplinary Arts programme. Fellows get access to state-of-the-art tech such as motion capture and 3D modelling, backed by extra AHRC grants.
Next Cohort and Festival of Ideas on Horizon
Applications for the 2025–2026 season open in autumn 2024, as the hunt for new international fellows begins. The current cohort will gather in Stratford-upon-Avon in summer 2025 for a Festival of Ideas to showcase their research and spark fresh conversations for the creative sector.
This initiative cements the RSC’s role as a global leader in creative research and cultural innovation.
