RSPCA on the Hunt for Owner of Cat Rescued After 10-Hour Wall Ordeal in South London
A black male cat, now named Flint, escaped a terrifying 10-hour ordeal trapped between two walls in a Brixton home. The feline was stuck wedged between an external and internal wall in Horseshoe Mews, Acre Lane, before firefighters sprang into action.
Firefighters Break Through Brick to Free Trapped Cat
The rescue came after a local heard the cat’s desperate meows and called the London Fire Brigade (LFB). Firefighters used cutting tools to smash through solid masonry, chiselling out two large holes to reach and free Flint. The dramatic rescue took place on Monday, September 9.
“The poor thing was wedged in there for around 10 hours before the fire officers arrived,” said RSPCA Officer Yalina Blumer. “He was dehydrated and couldn’t stand on his legs, so I took him straight to a local vet.”
Flint Now Safe and Recovering at RSPCA Hospital
Flint was taken to the RSPCA’s Finsbury Park Hospital where staff say he’s making a strong recovery. Chrissy Ellis from the hospital said:
“Flint is doing really well after his ordeal. He’s on pain relief and shows no limb issues. He’s a sweet, timid boy who enjoys head strokes and lots of TLC.”
RSPCA Seeks Owners: Flint Is Unchipped
Despite appearing well cared for, Flint isn’t microchipped, making it tough to track down his owner. The RSPCA is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch via their appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
The charity praised the London Fire Brigade’s quick actions and highlighted their ongoing partnership with emergency services to save animals in tight spots.
