Kids Turn Filmmakers in Solomon Islands Ahead of Commonwealth Day!
British High Commission Teams Up with Dreamcast Theatre
The British High Commission in the Solomon Islands has joined forces with local troupe Dreamcast Theatre to train schoolchildren in the art of filmmaking. This exciting initiative aims to inspire a new generation through storytelling ahead of Commonwealth Day.
Schools Get Camera-Ready
Youngsters from St Nicholas, Coronation, Honiara Integrated Community High School, Tuvaruhu, and Koloale primaries in Honiara took part in hands-on training. Under the expert guidance of Dreamcast Theatre producers, the kids learned everything from camera work to scriptwriting and scene production.
Films Reflect Commonwealth Values
Before picking up the cameras, the children explored the history and principles of the Commonwealth and its Charter. They chose three core values to highlight in their films: protecting the environment, human rights, and democracy. Grouped by their schools, they crafted short films showcasing these themes.
Big Screen Debut on Commonwealth Day
The three-day workshop, launched by British Deputy High Commissioner Emma Davis, kicked off last Wednesday at Dreamcast Theatre’s art hub in China Town, Honiara. The films will premiere today at the same venue, celebrating this year’s theme: “forging a sustainable and peaceful common future.”
