Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Names New Chief Officer
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has revealed its new Chief Officer. Stuart Stevens, the current Deputy Chief Officer, will step up to the top job later this year.
Stevens to Lead from November 1
Stevens, with over 26 years under his belt, takes over after Ross Haggart’s retirement in October. He officially starts as Chief Officer on November 1.
From Firefighter to Chief: Stevens’ Rise Through the Ranks
Beginning his fire service career in 1998, Stevens has held key roles that include Group Manager in Falkirk, Local Senior Officer for West Lothian, National Community Safety Group Manager, and Area Commander for Prevention and Protection.
In 2019, he climbed to Deputy Assistant Chief Officer within Strategic Planning, Performance, and Communications. By 2020, he was Assistant Chief Officer and Director of Service Delivery. He moved into Interim Deputy Chief Officer in 2022 and became permanent Deputy Chief Officer in April 2023.
Champions Community Safety
“I am honoured to be appointed as the next Chief Officer of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service,” Stevens said. “I look forward to continuing our work to ensure the safety and protection of communities across Scotland.”
SFRS is already hunting for a new Deputy Chief Officer to replace Stevens.
Outgoing Chief Officer Ross Haggart added, “Stuart Stevens is an exemplary leader with a wealth of experience. I am confident that under his leadership, the SFRS will continue to thrive and deliver exceptional service to the people of Scotland.”
A Critical Role in Scotland’s Safety
The SFRS remains vital in public safety and emergency response across Scotland. This leadership change signals a fresh chapter in its mission to protect communities.
