Scrap Metal Scandal on Victoria Drive! Police Nab Unlicensed Collectors

TEU Officers Alerted Over Dodgy Scrap Metal Van

Early on May 2nd, a vigilant member of the public tipped off the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) about a suspicious vehicle prowling Victoria Drive, Eastbourne. The van’s occupants were reportedly snatching scrap metal from driveways without permission.

Uninsured Driver and No Licence Lands Van in Hot Water

Police soon stopped the vehicle nearby. While the occupants did have approval to collect some scrap metal loaded in the van, they were missing crucial paperwork. The driver was uninsured, and neither occupant held a valid Waste Carrier’s Licence.

Van Impounded, Drivers Fined & Public Warned

  • The vehicle was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
  • The driver was reported for driving without insurance.
  • Both occupants were hit with reports for carrying waste without a licence.

Police have urged the public to double-check that scrap metal collectors have the proper licence before handing over any items. Online tools can confirm if companies or individuals are legally licensed for scrap metal collection.
