Emergency services caused a brief traffic chaos on Western Road last night as they mounted a dramatic rescue of a trapped seagull. The bird was caught in roof netting meant to keep gulls from nesting, leaving firefighters hoisting equipment high above shopfronts to save the distressed wildlife.

The drama unfolded just before 6pm when crews arrived promptly after a call at 5.43pm. Armed with an aerial ladder platform, firefighters carefully reached the netted gull and freed it without a scratch.
“We were called to reports of a seagull stuck in netting at a premises on Western Road,” said a spokeswoman for the 123 service. “Our team worked quickly to rescue the bird from urban deterrents designed to keep wildlife away.”
