Sellafield Ltd Shines at UK Nuclear Skills Awards!

Triple Triumph for Sellafield Ltd

It was a night of celebration as Sellafield Ltd soared at the 15th annual UK Nuclear Skills Awards. The event, organised by National Skills Academy Nuclear (NSAN) and Cogent Skills, spotlights the best in the nuclear sector – from top employers to outstanding apprentices.

Sellafield Ltd snagged top praise in the ‘Best Employer and Training Provider Partnership’ category. Plus, stars Jack Robinson and Alex Rawlinson were shortlisted for ‘Intermediate Apprentice’ and ‘Higher and Degree Apprentice of the Year’ respectively.

Bridging University and Work

Sellafield Ltd teamed up with Dove Nest to create a behavioural programme that helps new graduates smoothly transition from university life into the nuclear workforce. This innovative approach secured their spot as finalists for the best employer/training provider award.

“We’re proud to have been shortlisted. It’s testament to the importance of investment in our graduate community, and we look forward to the on-going partnership with Dove Nest,” said Lauren Lesiak, Sellafield’s graduate development lead.

“In 2022 we inducted 88 graduates – our largest ever intake – across key disciplines, proving the strength of our development scheme.”

Apprentices Who Mean Business

Mechanical engineer Alex Rawlinson finished a rigorous engineering degree apprenticeship in Warrington. He praised his mentors and peers for their support over the last five years.

“I was delighted to be shortlisted. Huge thanks to my training providers and line managers, plus the fellow students who’ve been a real support.”

Nuclear operator Jack Robinson urged budding apprentices to jump in with both feet.

“My advice to anyone wanting an apprenticeship is simple: go for it, commit 100%, and enjoy a rewarding training course and career.”

Celebrating Future Nuclear Stars

Donna Connor, Sellafield Ltd’s head of education and skills, proudly presented the ‘Nuclear Ambassador of the Year’ award. She said:

“This prestigious event is a fantastic chance to connect with organisations shaping tomorrow’s nuclear talent. It highlights the amazing career opportunities available, and I’m thrilled two of our former apprentices got the recognition they deserve.”
