New Sellafield Chaplain Steps Up To Support Staff During Pandemic
The coronavirus crisis has thrown everyone a curveball. Stress and uncertainty are at an all-time high. Luckily, Sellafield’s new chaplain, David Flitcroft, is ready to listen.
Chaplaincy Returns Just When It’s Needed Most
David took on the role just weeks before Covid-19 struck. Sellafield has long offered chaplaincy services – open to everyone, whether or not they follow a religion. But after the last chaplain left, the position sat empty for a while.
“I spoke with the Archdeacon and got full support from both him and the company,” says David. “Though it’s a voluntary role, I balance it with my day job as a Security and Resilience team leader.”
A Listening Ear for All Workers
David didn’t expect the pandemic to shake up life so dramatically. But the timing has given him a chance to reach out and connect with the workforce in new ways.
“I’m here for anyone who needs support, whether it’s just a chat or more practical help. Our goal is to walk alongside all employees in West Cumbria’s nuclear industry and offer care to those dealing with worry or anxiety.”
No Strings Attached: Everyone’s Welcome
There are already several fellowship groups within the company, offering a casual way to share faith. But David stresses: “You don’t have to be a churchgoer to reach out. Maybe you want to explore belief or just need someone to talk to. We welcome everyone, no questions asked.”
