Tragedy on the A27: Man Killed in Lorry Smash
Deadly Crash Shuts Down A27 Westbound
A man has died after a serious collision involving two lorries on the A27 this afternoon. The crash happened on the westbound carriageway between the A259 Havant Road/Emsworth and Fishbourne, forcing the road to shut both ways.
Inspector Stuart Goodwin confirmed the deadly smash occurred at 2.20pm. “Two heavy goods vehicles collided between Chichester and Havant,” he said. “Sadly, a 55-year-old man from Andover died at the scene.”
Long Delays and Diversions in Place
The closure has caused heavy traffic, with tailbacks stretching to the M27. While the eastbound carriageway has reopened, one lane remains closed at the crash site. Drivers are warned to avoid the area and use diversion routes via the old A259 from Chichester.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours while investigators work at the scene.
Emergency Services Tried to Save Victim
The air ambulance was dispatched promptly, but despite heroic efforts from emergency teams, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or has information to get in touch to assist with the investigation.
