Sheffield United Keeper Wes Foderingham Hits Out at Racist Abuse Online
Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has had enough. After suffering racial abuse on social media, he’s urged football fans to “think before they type.”
Racist Abuse Follows Blistering Spurs Defeat
The disgusting messages came after United’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, September 16. Foderingham revealed opposition fans hurled not only racist slurs but also “family threats” at him online.
“I don’t mind opposition fans calling me every 1 under the sun. But be easy with the racism and family threats. Think before you type,” Foderingham wrote on Instagram.
Sheffield United Slam Racism, Back Their Keeper
The Blades swiftly condemned the vile abuse in a club statement. They vowed to work with authorities to investigate and support Foderingham fully.
“Sheffield United condemn the racist, abusive and threatening messages that have been sent to Wes Foderingham after yesterday’s game against Spurs,” the club said.
They added: “There is no room for racism in our game.”
Growing Pains for Blades
On the pitch, Foderingham couldn’t prevent late strikes from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski that sealed United’s loss.
Under boss Paul Heckingbottom, Sheffield United are struggling to find form in the Premier League, picking up just one point from their opening five games.
