Blaze Destroys First Floor and Roof of London Semi
A fierce fire gutted most of the first floor and damaged half the roof of a semi-detached house. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.
Street Shut as Firefighters Battle Flames
Fire crews from Heston, Feltham, Hayes, Heathrow, and Ealing rushed to the scene after being called at 6.25pm. The blaze was finally brought under control by 8.19pm, but not before roads nearby were closed to keep the public safe.
Unattended Candle Blamed for Devastating Fire
London Fire Brigade investigators believe the fire was accidental, sparked by an unattended candle. A Brigade spokesperson warned, “Candles are one of the most common causes of fires in the home. Always be careful when using them.”
“It’s really important that you never leave them unattended and keep them away from anything that could catch fire such as curtains, furniture or clothes.”
“We recommend swapping traditional candles for LED flameless ones as they are much safer, but if you do use real candles, follow our simple safety tips.”
Top Candle Safety Tips from London Fire Brigade
- Always put out candles, incense, and oil burners when leaving the room or before you go to bed.
- Use heat-resistant holders on stable surfaces to prevent accidents.
- Keep flames away from curtains, furniture, clothes, and hair.
- Be cautious of tea lights—they get extremely hot and can melt plastic surfaces like TVs and bath tubs.
- Keep candles and naked flames out of reach of children and pets.
Stay safe and consider switching to LED flameless candles for peace of mind.
