M27 Upgrade Finally Nears Finish Line After Years of Roadworks
Drivers on the M27 have a reason to cheer! National Highways have been busy upgrading a 15-mile stretch between junction 4 (M3 interchange) and junction 11 (Fareham) since March 2018. The end is finally in sight.
Traffic Cones and Barriers Coming Down This Week
Starting tomorrow night, workers will begin removing the temporary traffic management measures. The motorway will be fully reopened by 6am on Friday, 18th February, signalling an end to years of road chaos.
Speed Limits to Rise as New Tech Gets Final Tests
Once the cones are gone, the speed limit will initially climb to 60mph on all four lanes. This will last while stopped vehicle detection technology undergoes its final checks.
After successful tests, the speed limit will rise further to 70mph along the fully updated stretch between junctions 4 and 11.
“Control room operators will be able to rapidly change speed limits and display warning signs during incidents,” National Highways confirmed.
Four Lanes All the Way As M27 Gets a Major Upgrade
The M27 is now fully four lanes wide throughout this section, promising a smoother, safer journey for drivers once the works wrap up.
Motorists can finally look forward to game-changing improvements and a faster, less congested M27.
