Blaze Breaks Out at Derelict Isle of Wight Hotel
Firefighters rushed to tackle a fierce blaze this evening at the abandoned Parkbury Hotel in Sandown, Isle of Wight. Thick smoke poured from the roof of the derelict building off The Broadway, sparking a major emergency response.
Massive Fire Response on the Scene
- Four fire engines from Sandown, Ryde, and Newport were first on site, joined by senior officers and the Newport Aerial Ladder Platform.
- Fire crews deployed main jets, hose reels, and breathing apparatus to battle the flames.
- The Aerial Ladder Platform was positioned on Winchester Park Road, surrounding the former hotel for full coverage.
- Additional units from East Cowes, Cowes, and an Incident Command Unit from Newport have been drafted in.
Road Closures and Ambulance Support
Police shut down Broadway in both directions, ensuring safety and clear access for emergency teams. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service arrived with an operational commander on scene.
About 30 firefighters are now fighting the fire, with two extra appliances from southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton brought in to maintain island-wide protection. The situation remains ongoing as crews work to bring the blaze under control.
