Starmer Vows to Slash UK Migration if Labour Wins Election

Labour Leader Targets Border Control

Sir Keir Starmer has made a bold pledge to drastically cut immigration levels if Labour takes power in the upcoming general election. Speaking exclusively to the Sun on Sunday, the Labour boss slammed last year’s staggering net migration figure of 685,000 as “unsustainable.”

“We need to control our borders and ensure British businesses prioritise hiring Brits first,” Starmer declared. It’s a clear message aimed at tackling the huge influx of arrivals and protecting UK workers.

Labour’s Crackdown on Employers Exploiting Foreign Labour

Under a Labour government, employers who break employment laws—like failing to pay the minimum wage—would be banned from hiring foreign workers. The move is designed to end dodgy practices and put UK residents at the front of the queue for jobs.

Labour also plans to link the immigration system with domestic training schemes. Companies applying to bring in foreign workers will have to prove they’re actively training British workers to fill those roles first.

However, Starmer held back on naming specific migration targets or promising a clear timeline for cuts, leaving some questions unanswered.

Sunak Counters with Community Healthcare Plans

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has unveiled his first big election health pitch, focusing on ramping up community care. His plan calls for 100 new GP surgeries and 50 community diagnostic centres, funded by cutting the number of NHS managers.

The Tories also want to expand the Pharmacy First scheme, letting patients get certain treatments from pharmacists without needing a GP. “These proposals will make it quicker, easier, and more convenient for patients to get the care they need while easing pressure on hospitals,” Sunak vowed.

Election Battle Lines Drawn: Migration vs. Healthcare

With the general election looming, Labour is playing the tough immigration card, while the Conservatives are banking on healthcare improvements to win votes. Both parties are setting their stall out on major national concerns, promising big changes depending on which party comes out on top.
