Suffolk Police Slam Drivers Snapping Crash Scenes on the Move

Suffolk Police have hit out at motorists caught filming and photographing a crash while driving in Haverhill. The shocking incident unfolded on Thursday, August 22, at around 5:25 a.m. on Enterprise Way.

Lorry Crash Sparks Chaos and Camera Frenzy

Police responded swiftly after reports of a lorry struggling over a roundabout. Thankfully, the driver escaped serious injury but was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Despite the serious situation, officers spotted 18 drivers breaking the law by whipping out their phones to film or snap the collision scene while behind the wheel. These reckless drivers now face hefty consequences.

£200 Fines and Six Points Loom for Reckless Snap-Happy Drivers

Suffolk’s Commercial Vehicle Unit’s PC Wayne Sturman blasted the offenders. He said, “It was incredibly disappointing to see so many people flouting the law in front of our eyes by taking photos or videos of the collision scene.”

He was particularly scathing about two of the offenders, who were professional HGV drivers. Sturman called their behaviour “thoughtless and negligent.”

More Dangerous Driving Caught on Camera

Adding fuel to the fire, officers also caught a van driver taking a cheeky shortcut—driving the wrong way round the roundabout and over a grass verge to skip the road closure. That driver now faces prosecution for careless driving.

PC Sturman warned, using a phone while driving is not just stupid, it’s deadly. Drivers caught filming or distracted at crash scenes face a £200 fine and six points on their licences.

New drivers holding licences under two years risk losing theirs entirely if they rack up six points.
