Ex-Coventry Star’s Baby Battles Leukaemia: Urgent Fundraiser Hits £1.48M

Former Coventry City player Ashley Cain and partner Safiyya Vorajee have launched a desperate plea for help after their eight-week-old daughter Azaylia was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Azaylia’s Fight Against Leukaemia

The tiny tot went into full relapse following three rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. The couple revealed the only chance to save Azaylia’s life is urgent treatment abroad.

“The only option to save Azaylia’s life is to fly to Singapore for CAR-T therapy plus a haplo transplant,” they said.

Cutting-Edge Treatment Spark Hope

CAR-T therapy, the same treatment given to youngsters Oscar Saxelby-Lee and Zac Oliver, reprogrammes a patient’s immune cells to attack cancer. The highly personalised treatment offers a glimmer of hope amid devastating odds.

Massive Support Floods In

The family’s fundraising effort, launched on Sunday, quickly went viral. By Monday lunchtime, over £1.48 million was raised on their page.

“We are so overwhelmed by the support we have received and cannot begin to express our deep gratitude,” Ashley and Safiyya posted.

Azaylia will soon undergo a bone marrow test, lumbar puncture, and blood samples will be sent to Singapore ahead of treatment.

Any funds raised beyond their £1 million target, including from a charity bike ride, will support other children and families facing similar battles.

“This is not only to get my daughter the treatment she needs, but to support families who won’t have the network we do,” the couple added.
