Surrey Firefighters to Ramp Up Medical Emergency Role in Life-Saving Trial
From Monday 23 May, Surrey firefighters will expand their role in life-saving medical emergencies, joining South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) on more serious calls. The successful trial, launched last September, initially saw firefighters attend only cardiac arrest cases. Now, they’ll also respond to incidents like seizures and unconscious patients.
Firefighters Receive Specialist Emergency Care Training
All participating firefighters volunteered for Immediate Emergency Care Responder training, created by SECAmb. This equips them to provide critical frontline treatment before ambulance crews arrive, much like SECAmb’s Community First Responders (CFRs).
Ambulance Teams Work Hand-in-Hand with Fire Co-Responders
Ambulance clinicians are dispatched alongside fire co-responders or CFRs, ensuring expert care reaches patients swiftly. This trial forms part of SECAmb’s wider push to improve emergency response times and patient outcomes.
