DVLA Launches Digital Inclusion Scheme with Laptop Donations to Welsh Schools
The DVLA has kicked off a game-changing Digital Inclusion Scheme, donating IT equipment to local authorities in Wales for distribution to schools. Swansea Council is the very first to get their hands on the laptops as part of this bold new drive.
Closing the Digital Divide for Young Learners
This scheme aims to boost vital digital skills and stop any child from being left behind in today’s tech-focused world. Julie Lennard, DVLA Chief Executive, said:
“I’m very proud of this new initiative and thrilled that Swansea Council is the first to receive our donated laptops. Digital inclusion is critical to ensuring that all students have access to the technology they require to develop digital skills for themselves and the region.”
She also urged other local authorities to sign up and join the push for tech equality across Wales.
Swansea Council Takes the Lead
Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, expressed excitement at being the scheme’s debut partner:
“I’m thrilled that Swansea is the first local authority to begin working with the DVLA on the Digital Inclusion scheme as part of our commitment to ensuring that all of our schools and students have access to digital devices at home and at school.
Some students have already begun to use the equipment, and many more will benefit along with their families, so I’d like to thank the DVLA for including us in this wonderful community initiative.”
Eco-Friendly and Inclusive – A Win-Win
The Digital Inclusion Scheme also champions sustainability. By repurposing IT equipment, laptops get a new lease of life, cutting down on waste and helping the DVLA push its carbon emissions down to zero.
Primary and secondary schools across Wales can get involved. Local authorities eager to join the digital revolution can sign up via the DVLA’s STEM website now.
