Teen Dies, Dad Seriously Hurt in Horror M6 Crash Near Lancaster

A 14-year-old boy has died and his father was seriously injured after a shocking crash on the M6 near Lancaster.

Deadly Crash on M6 Southbound

Emergency crews raced to the southbound carriageway between Junctions 33 and 34, close to University Hill, shortly after 12:15pm on Sunday, April 20.

The Peugeot van carrying the teenage boy reportedly veered off the motorway and smashed into a tree.

Paramedics fought to save the boy, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His father, in his 30s, was left with serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Police Launch Full Investigation

Lancashire Police have opened a full investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They’re especially keen to see any dashcam footage that could shed light on the crash.

Sergeant Martin Wilcock, Serious Collision Investigation Unit:

“This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of a young man and left another with serious injuries. My thoughts are with their families at this incredibly difficult time.

We’re working to establish exactly what happened. Anyone who saw the incident or the vehicle before the crash, please get in touch.”

“Dashcam or phone footage, no matter how minor, could be crucial.”

Major Delays as M6 Shut for Hours

The M6 southbound was closed between Junctions 33 and 34 for hours while investigators worked the scene, causing massive traffic jams.

Police urge anyone with info to call 101 quoting log 0503 of April 20. Evidence can also be emailed to Lancashire’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit or submitted via their website.
