Tesla Smashes into Pedestrians Outside Sainsbury’s in East London
Seven people have been rushed to hospital after a Tesla crashed into a group of pedestrians outside a Sainsbury’s in Stepney Green, East London. The shocking smash happened at 5.26pm on Sunday at the busy junction of Mile End Road and Harford Street, leaving chaos and stunned onlookers in its wake.
Car Crashes into Lamppost, Traffic Lights, and Pavement
The white electric car ploughed into a lamppost and traffic lights before screeching to a halt on the pavement outside Sainsbury’s Local. Glass shards and twisted debris were scattered across the road, adding to the scene of devastation.
Rapid Response from Emergency Services
A swift rescue operation saw three ambulances, a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance, and a fire engine from Shoreditch fire station rush to the scene.
“We were called at 5.26pm on Sunday to reports of a road traffic collision in Mile End Road, E1. We sent a number of resources including three ambulance crews and a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. The first paramedic arrived in under seven minutes. We treated seven patients at the scene, all of whom were taken to hospital. Two were taken to a major trauma centre as a priority,” said a London Ambulance Service spokesperson.
Eyewitnesses Recall the Horror
By-standers were left horrified as they rushed to help the victims lying on the pavement. Social media footage shows the Tesla’s front end mangled beyond recognition, along with a destroyed traffic light and lamppost ripped from their foundations.
Fire Brigade Statement and Ongoing Police Investigation
“Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving one car, a lamppost, and a traffic light. One fire engine attended from Shoreditch fire station. The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received the first call at 7.56pm and the incident was under control by 8.21pm,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
The Metropolitan Police have yet to reveal if any arrests have been made or whether the crash was deliberate or accidental. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause, including possible mechanical fault or driver error.
