Lockdown Lifts: Isle of Wight Learner Drivers Gear Up to Hit the Road Again
Since the third national lockdown slammed on the brakes in early 2021, learner drivers on the Isle of Wight have been stuck in neutral—no lessons, no tests. But now, with the PM’s roadmap in hand, the DVSA has rolled out tentative dates for revving up lessons and driving tests once more.
Lessons Restart 12th April
From Monday 12th April, learner drivers can get back behind the wheel with their instructors. It’s a long-awaited green light for thousands hungry to make up lost ground.
Tests Resume 22nd April
Driving tests kick off 10 days later on Thursday 22nd April. The gap gives learners a crucial window to tighten their skills before the big day.
If you’ve already booked a test before 22nd April, don’t worry—the DVSA will email you about rescheduling.
Theory Tests Also Back on Track
The DVSA is restarting theory tests from 12th April too. Anyone with bookings before that date can expect a reschedule email.
Practice with Household Members Allowed
While waiting for instructors, learners can keep practising with a qualified driver from their household—just for essential trips like food shopping. Plus, from 29th March, the ‘Stay at Home’ rule drops, letting learners hit the road without restrictions before lessons officially restart.
All dates hinge on the Government’s 5th April review. But with Covid cases dropping fast, these plans look set to stick.
