Tragic M55 Crash Claims Life of Blackburn Biker
A motorcyclist has died in a devastating smash on the M55. The collision happened around 9pm on Sunday, September 6th.
An Audi A4 slammed into the back of a Suzuki bike, knocking the rider off. Moments later, a Ford Focus crashed into the fallen biker, causing fatal injuries at the scene.
Victim Named: Andrew Wallbank, 32
The rider has been identified as Andrew Wallbank, 32, from Blackburn. His family have paid a heartfelt tribute, saying:
“The family are truly heartbroken at the news and loss of Andrew. Andrew was a fun and friendly character who wore his heart on his sleeve. He was at his happiest when riding his motorbike with his twin brother or surrounded by his family and friends.
“Andrew will be greatly missed by many and leaves a huge hole in our family.”
Suspects Arrested, Now Released Under Investigation
The Audi’s driver, 40, and passenger, 29, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Both have since been released pending further investigation.
Police are urging anyone with info or dashcam footage to come forward. Sgt Andrew Hemingway of Lancashire Constabulary said:
“This collision has very sadly resulted in Mr Wallbank losing his life and my thoughts are very much with his loved ones at this time.
“If anyone witnessed the collision or saw the motorcycle beforehand, please contact us. Your information could be vital.”
“Thank you to motorists affected by the motorway closure. It was necessary due to the complexity of the scene.”
