Blaze Breaks Out at Tower Hamlets Shop – No Smoke Alarms Found!
Firefighters Rush to Tower Hamlets Blaze
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters slammed into action after a fire broke out on Turner Street in Tower Hamlets on the night of 17 February. The flames tore through a single-storey extension of a four-storey building with shops below and flats above.
Damage and Danger: No Injuries But No Smoke Alarms
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the blaze. But shockingly, the property had no working smoke alarms installed, a vital safety measure missing during the fire. The London Fire Brigade confirmed the absence of alarms, raising alarms about fire safety in homes.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home,” said a spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade. “Smoke alarms provide the earliest warning when fire strikes. We urge everyone to install smoke alarms in every room where a fire could start, plus heat alarms in kitchens, and to test them regularly.”
Fast Response and Ongoing Investigation
- The fire was reported at 11.02pm and extinguished by 1.06am.
- Fire crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, and nearby stations worked together to control the blaze.
- The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
