Operation Brock kicks in to stop M20 chaos amid Dover delays!

Operation Brock is a vital set of measures designed to keep Kent moving when the English Channel faces disruption. It’s a precaution due to ongoing limited ferry capacity at the busy Port of Dover.

When the Channel grinds to a halt, HGVs bound for Dover or the Eurotunnel have nowhere to queue. Thanks to Operation Brock, all EU-bound freight is rerouted onto the coastbound side of the M20 between junctions 8 and 9. Here, trucks line up safely and wait their turn to head through Dover or the Eurotunnel.

Trucks aren’t just queued on the coastbound carriageway—they’re also stacked in the coastbound contraflow, helping manage heavy traffic loads.

Local Traffic? Follow These Diversions

Look out for the hollow circle symbol on road signs to stay on track.

  • Exit the M20 at Junction 8, then take the 2nd exit at the roundabout onto the A20 heading east towards Ashford.
  • Follow the A20 through Harrietsham, Lenham, and Charing until the Drovers roundabout. Take the 1st exit to continue on the A20 towards the M20.
  • At the M20 Junction 9 roundabout, take the 3rd exit back onto the coastbound M20 to continue your journey.

EU freight must exit and rejoin the M20 at Junction 8 using slip roads.

If these closures affect your route, brace yourself for delays. Plan ahead, consider alternative routes, or delay your trip.
