Blazing Blaze Destroys Thatched Roof Home in Clanfield

Over 70 firefighters rushed to tackle a ferocious thatched roof fire in North Lane, Clanfield, just before 1am. The detached property’s roof was already fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene.

Road Closures and Smoke Warnings in Effect

Chalton Lane remains shut both ways between South Lane/East Meon Road and Sunderton Lane amid ongoing fire operations. Nearby residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed to protect against heavy smoke. Authorities also advise the public to avoid the area due to a large emergency response presence.

Massive Firefighting Effort Across Multiple Stations

  • More than 12 fire engines deployed from Horndean, Havant, Waterlooville, Cosham, Fareham, Hayling Island, Southsea, and Droxford.
  • Specialist units called in from Eastleigh, Portchester, and Alton, including an aerial ladder platform.
  • Firefighters in breathing apparatus used hose reels and jets to control the blaze and conduct a salvage operation inside the two-storey home.

Severe Damage and Ongoing Firefight

The fire has destroyed the roof and first floor, while the ground floor suffered extensive smoke and water damage. Crews from Hamble, Hightown, and Bishop’s Waltham have been brought in to relieve the initial teams after many hours of battling the inferno.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.
