UK Monkeypox Cases Hit 574 as Summer Festivals Loom
The UK has confirmed 574 monkeypox cases as of June 16. England bears the brunt with 550 cases, followed by Scotland with 16, Wales 6, and Northern Ireland 2.
Health Officials Warn: Watch for Monkeypox Symptoms This Summer
Dr William Welfare, Incident Director at UKHSA, urged the public to stay alert. “As case numbers rise and summer events kick off, be aware of monkeypox symptoms, especially if you’ve recently had new or multiple sexual partners,” he said.
If you spot a rash with blisters or other monkeypox signs, avoid parties, festivals, or sexual contact. Instead, stay home and contact NHS 111 or your local sexual health clinic. Call ahead and keep your distance until a clinician sees you.
UKHSA Teams Up With Event Organisers
The UK Health Security Agency is working with venues and organisers nationwide to boost awareness. Their goal? A safe, happy, and healthy summer for all.
Germany Preps For Winter with Mask Recommendations
Over in Germany, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has urged citizens to continue wearing masks indoors — for now on a voluntary basis.
But winter is coming, and Lauterbach warned tougher coronavirus rules could return. He compared it to swapping summer tyres for winter ones: “We need to prepare for stricter regulations as the cold months approach.”
Reports suggest Germany may enforce mandatory indoor mask-wearing in public between October and Easter, mirroring existing winter tyre laws. The news was revealed by the German paper Welt am Sonntag.
