At 2.36pm on Thursday, June 16, a suspected gas explosion ripped through a shop on Holyhead Road, Handsworth, Birmingham.

Fire Crews Rush to Scene

Three fire crews from 1 and Smethwick quickly responded, alongside the Technical Rescue Unit. The blast blew out the shop’s front window, collapsed a rear wall, and left one man injured. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Residents Rescued Amid Chaos

Firefighters courageously led three people to safety from a first-floor flat above the shop. A structural engineer was called in to assess the building’s stability and worked with utility firms to cut power and prevent further danger.
