Emergency services raced to a serious multi-vehicle smash on the M2 coastbound at junction 3 near Maidstone on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 4:15pm, involving three vehicles, one of which burst into flames. Kent Fire and Rescue Service quickly sent two fire engines to tackle the blaze. Firefighters, armed with breathing apparatus, doused the fire using high-pressure hose reels and compressed air foam.

In a bold emergency operation, crews had to cut the roof off one car to rescue a trapped driver. The motorist was safely freed and treated, along with two other injured parties, by South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics.
