Reading Buses Launch New Routes to Turbocharge A33 Commute
Reading Buses is shaking up the wheel with fresh routes along the busy A33 corridor from the start of this month. This revamp of the ‘Greenwave’ network aims to make commuting in South Reading quicker and simpler.
Simpler, Faster Journeys with Greenwave Upgrade
The overhaul ties into Reading Borough Council’s latest push to speed up bus journeys, unveiling the fifth phase of bus priority works this July. The new routes are:
- Ruby 10: Kennet Island to Central Reading
- Greenwave 50: Green Park to Central Reading
- Park & Ride 600: Direct route from Mereoak to Central Reading, calling at Reading International Business Park and Tesco Depot during peak times
All services will roll out on green bio-methane buses, slashing carbon footprints. Expect sleek, dual-door double-deckers on Greenwave 50 once Covid passenger numbers pick up again.

“Covid-19 has hammered passenger numbers. But Greenwave has been one of our fastest-growing services, thanks to a decade-long partnership with Reading Council and local business parks,” said Robert Williams, Reading Buses CEO.
“With the partnership renewal this November, we’re cranking up Greenwave with three new frequent routes, more capacity and simpler fares to fuel growth. We want to lead the post-Covid travel revival — making bus travel attractive and green.”

New Bus Priority Perks and Fare Simplicity
The revamped routes, debuting November 9, benefit from new bus priority measures on the A33, shaving crucial minutes off trips. Plus, fares will merge into the new ‘simple reading’ family. Passengers can still use existing passes for six months, ensuring a smooth switch.
