Four South Korean Tourists Drowned in Vietnam Flood Tragedy
Jeep Swept Away in Rising Floodwaters
Four South Korean tourists died after their jeep was swept away by flash floods in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. The heartbreaking incident happened around midday on Tuesday in Dalat, a dreamy holiday hotspot. Their vehicle was attempting to cross a swollen stream when it was carried off by sudden, fierce floodwaters.
Floodwaters Surge After Days of Torrential Rain
VN Express reported that the water rose “suddenly high” after three days of relentless rain in Lam Dong province, where Dalat is located. The victims’ bodies were found several kilometres downstream, showing just how powerful and fast the floodwaters were.
The jeep’s Vietnamese driver was also swept away but survived against the odds, according to local reports. It’s believed heavy rain upstream caused the river to swell dangerously.
Rainy Season Brings Havoc to Central Vietnam
The tourists were enjoying a day tour of Dalat’s famous landscapes when disaster struck. Central Vietnam has endured intense rains since mid-October, the heart of the rainy season here. The area has faced multiple disasters this year, with floods and landslides claiming around 100 lives, official figures confirm.
Extreme Weather Risks Continue to Rise
Just a day earlier, rescue teams called off searches for 13 fishermen lost at sea during storms in the South China Sea. Only two bodies were recovered, highlighting the deadly forces of nature at play.
Scientists warn that such extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense worldwide, largely due to climate change.
