Transformative Valley Gardens project poised to advance with enhanced public transport accessibility

The conclusive phase of the transformative Valley Gardens project is poised to advance following an extensive examination of its plans. This pivotal decision has arisen from collaborative meetings involving council members and administrative officers, where the project’s design underwent meticulous scrutiny, transport modelling data was analyzed, and feedback from key stakeholders was considered.

This comprehensive review has yielded positive enhancements to the project, with a particular focus on enhancing public transport accessibility. Notably, adjustments have been made to expand the space available at bus stops, facilitating seamless ingress and egress for buses while ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow for other vehicles.

Council members have officially directed officers to proceed with the selection of a primary contractor through the procurement process. Pending the successful completion of this procurement phase, the project is primed for commencement, with an estimated timeline of approximately 18 months for its realization.

In addition to this exciting development, the plans for phase 3, spanning from the Old Steine to the seafront, encompass a range of significant improvements, including enhanced public transport access, additional taxi ranks, pedestrian-friendly pavement designs, landscaping, sustainable outdoor event infrastructure, separated cycle lanes linking to previous phases, improved lighting, increased parking bays for Blue Badge holders, a new junction to replace the Palace Pier roundabout, and enhanced bus stop designs to enhance passenger safety and convenience.
