The US President, Donald Trump, is heading to Southsea for the massive 75th D-Day commemorations. His UK state visit runs from June 3 to 5, with a key appearance in Portsmouth on Wednesday, June 5.
Massive Military Show on the Solent
The event promises an incredible display, with over 11 Royal Navy ships anchoring in the Solent. More than 4,000 personnel will be mobilised, and the skies will roar with a 26-aircraft RAF flypast.
Traffic Chaos and Tight Security Expected
With Trump in town, ferry timetables and traffic in Portsmouth will see major changes. Locals are warned to brace for disruptions. Hampshire Constabulary has vowed top-notch security to keep vets, visitors, and residents safe.
“We’re very proud that Portsmouth is at the heart of the D-Day 75 anniversary event,” said a police spokesperson. “We’re planning with local and national partners to ensure a safe, respectful commemoration of our heroes.”
Portsmouth Council: A Historic Tribute
David Williams, Chief Executive of Portsmouth City Council, said, “The scale of D-Day 75 is unprecedented, and Portsmouth stands at the centre of this historic tribute. We honour the veterans and reflect on the lessons from that fateful day.”
