UK Set for More Sizzling Sunshine and Balmy Temps Next Week

The UK is in for another hot spell with temperatures soaring to 26°C and 27°C, says the Met Office. After smashing records, Brits can bask in more warm weather ahead.

July 19: Year’s Hottest Day Hits 31.9°C in London

Friday, July 19, was a scorcher – with central London’s St James’s Park roasting at 31.9°C, the hottest day of the year so far. But don’t put away your jumpers just yet. The weekend cooled down as clouds rolled in, with Sunday settling at a pleasant 20°C, right around the July average.

Met Office Forecast: Dry Days Then Rain Rolls In

Craig Snell, Met Office meteorologist, revealed that Sunday will start grey in the east, with the south enjoying highs in the high teens. By afternoon, dry and bright spells will dominate most areas.

Next week isn’t all sunshine, though. Rain is expected to sweep in from the west on Monday. The north of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will face wet spells, but the south should stay mostly dry.

Warmer Days Ahead – But Showers Return Thursday

Tuesday and Wednesday should calm down with temperatures climbing, especially in the south where it could reach up to 27°C. Thursday looks soggy before conditions improve heading into the weekend.

“It won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine,” said Snell. “Rain will hit the north on Monday and spread on Thursday. It won’t be as hot as recent days but warmer than early July. Overall, the southeast and south will see the warmest temperatures next week.”
