Britain Braces for Fierce Winds and Torrential Rain

The Met Office has slammed down fresh weather warnings as Britain faces a blast of fierce winds and heavy rain. Gusts of up to 70mph are expected, with the South East and London squarely in the firing line. Authorities have issued yellow warnings, urging the public to stay alert as the storm barrels in.

Yellow Warnings Across South East and London

The heavy rain warning runs from 5am to 5pm tomorrow, while the wind warning kicks in at 8am and lasts until 6pm. Rain will lash Bath, London, and Norwich, while brutal winds threaten the South East, including Brighton and Portsmouth.

The Met Office has warned the storm could spark flooding, travel chaos, power cuts, and mobile blackouts. Coastal areas face flying debris as gusts roar through.

Heavy Downpours and Gale-Force Winds to Roar Across England

Forecasters say a band of heavy, squally rain will sweep eastwards across England on Thursday, with gusts hitting around 50mph. Hail and thunder are also on the cards. Southern and eastern coasts could see fierce winds of 60-70mph, especially near the English Channel and southern North Sea.

Rainfall could be hefty and prolonged – some spots may get 30-40mm. The Met Office warns this will worsen flooding on already soaked ground.

Flooding Hits Hard, But Sunshine on the Horizon

Brits are already battling floods today, with severe flooding reported in Whittlesey and Thorney near Peterborough and Buttsbury Wash near Billericay, Essex. Commuters are struggling as roads turn impassable in many areas.

There is a silver lining, though. Conditions should brighten this afternoon, with sunny spells breaking through after a drenched morning. Temperatures will hover between 12°C and 14°C, before a colder spell hits tomorrow evening, possibly bringing snow to mountainous regions.
